THE CHANGE UP:
Before attending university, my weight was around 325 pounds (148 kg). Since birth, the only time I was considered to be of a healthy weight was when I was born. After three months, my petite physique blossomed. I hadn't thought about making any changes to improve my health. Growing up, I played basketball, American football, and bicycled. The sweet things in life never really appealed to me, but the savory ones did.
My pediatrician constantly reminded me that I was fat and should degrease. My cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose levels were high. Give your mouth a break, people told me. It was only after a high school classmate told me I was afraid to lose weight that I became motivated to lose weight.
Following two days of reflection, I decided it was time to become healthier during President's Day weekend 2006. I developed the nerve and discipline to reject all processed foods. My business was my top priority. It took time to make it a habit to prepare nutritious foods, exercise four to five days per week, and sleep seven to eight hours at night. In addition, I had to change my environment and social circle.
Initially, the weight melted slowly, but then accelerated after two weeks. As a college freshman, I weighed 220 pounds. As of now, I weigh 180 pounds, am healthy, fit, and comfortable. The journey has never ended; it has only deepened. I obtained my Masters degree in Human Nutrition before becoming a Certified Nutrition Specialist and a licensed nutritionist in the states of Delaware and Pennsylvania. My experience has taught me that a healthy lifestyle also requires a strong support system and reliable information.
Healthfulscopes exists to keep people informed about nutrition and wellness. The concept of striving to become a better version of yourself resonates with me. Whether I have won or lost, it is my pleasure to share my experiences. A health-conscious community and a soon-to-be one is what I seek. Prof. Nutellio will post blogs whenever he has time. Cheers!
Behind the Scene:
Greetings, I'm Junior Jean-Paul aka Professor Nutellio, a certified nutrition specialist based out of the Philadelphia/Wilmington area. Several health challenges have recently prompted me to offer nutritional advice. Rather than giving generic information, I prefer to educate the public. That's the born of Healthfulscopes. My approach to teaching involves setting up the problem, explaining the science, and providing nutritional advice when necessary. Then follow up with an opinionated piece backed up by scientific evidence, called "Let my Script Parley."
